How Schokolade tames his fox?

Schokolade has been with me for three years now. He is shy and cautious, slipping behind the sofa or hiding under the table whenever strangers come near. But behind that timid heart lives a little prince — one who rules his tiny kingdom with quiet confidence.

When I first brought him home, he vanished under the sofa so quickly I wondered if I’d ever see him again. But the next morning, when I woke up, there he was — curled up beside me on the bed, fast asleep as if he’d always belonged there. It was his way of saying, “You are mine, and I am yours.”

To this day, he won’t do that with anyone else. Even my best friends, who have kept him company for days at a time, still joke about how Schokolade treats them like strangers — polite, watchful, but always just out of reach. They grumble about it, but I know it’s his quiet reminder: he chose me, and I chose him.

When it’s just the two of us, Schokolade walks around like a king inspecting his realm. He sits high up on his favorite perch — a soft throne where he can look down at the world with those calm, watchful eyes. He knows every corner of our home is his, and he moves through it with a gentle, quiet pride.

And me? I’m not just his folk — I’m his fox. They say in The Little Prince that to tame means to establish ties, to make each other unique in all the world. Schokolade did this slowly: a warm glance from his hiding spot, the soft brush of fur against my leg, a quiet purr that asked for nothing yet promised everything. Day by day, he taught me his language — the silent ways of trust and patience. Like the prince and the fox, we tamed each other.

Every morning, at exactly 6:30 a.m., Schokolade wakes me up. There’s no ignoring him — a soft paw on my cheek, a tiny meow, the unspoken command: “It’s time.” He doesn’t just want food — he wants my sleepy hands to scratch his head and rub his chin. Only then will he let me prepare his breakfast, as if to say, “Yes, you may serve me now.”

Sometimes I watch him and think: he truly is my little prince, and I am his fox — bound together by small routines and an unspoken promise to keep each other company. And maybe that’s exactly how it should be — a shy cat turned king in the safety of our quiet home, reminding me every day that love, like taming, can be both soft and demanding.

To me, Schokolade is unique in all the world. And to us, that is enough — because we need each other.
